Leaves opposite, orbicular, 3-12cm wide, serrate, palmate venation with 7-9 acute-tipped lobes incised to about 1/3 of blade, pubescent alonge veins; schizocarp 4-5cm wide, thick edge of wings at 160-180 degrees, each samara 2-3cm long x 8-12mm wide. Winter ID: young bark greenish, twigs red; buds conical, the outer scales shiny red, the bud with a short fringe of fine white hairs at its base.
