Leaves opposite, golden yellow, orbicular, most 5-9cm wide, 9-13 lobes with acuminate tips, fan-like, margins double serrate, petioles 5-7cm long; flowers in umbel-like clasters of 8-10; schizocarps 3-4cm wide, thick side of wings at 170-180 degree angle, samaras seem upside down compare to other maples and the thin wing margin is wavy. Winter ID: lateral buds curved inwards, conical, about 5mm long, red, partially surrounded by brown scale fringed with hairs.
